Triple crown for Swift Sport - 'Best Buy' Hot Hatch at the 2014 What Car? Awards

Jan 10, 2014

Suzuki had some great news at the recent 2014 What Car? Magazine awards as the Swift Sport model has been awarded a ‘Best Buy’ accolade for the third consecutive year. The performance flagship of the Swift range was comprehensively judged by the editorial team against some strong competition and the final vote resulted in it again receiving the ‘Best Buy Hot hatch for less than £15,000’.

With an even higher standard specification for 2014 which includes satellite navigation and DAB radio, Swift Sport still remains a lot less than £15,000 at £13,999 for three-door and £14,499 for the five-door model, introduced in 2013.

Swift Sport is available in a choice of four standard metallic paint finishes and is equipped with seven airbags, auto air conditioning, cruise control, rear privacy glass and 17-inch alloy wheels. In addition to standard satellite navigation and DAB radio, the Sport also has voice recognition, USB and SD connection and Bluetooth music streaming which is also compatible with iPod/ iPhone.

Chas Hallett, What Car? Editor in chief comments: “The Suzuki Swift Sport might be based on an average small car, but this version’s rev-happy engine and sharp handling means it’s far from an average hot hatch. What will delight most is the body control and grip on offer, the Swift outshines more expensive rivals, giving you plenty of confidence to wring out the engine through a series of bends. The three-door will be enough for most buyers and we think it’s still the best affordable hot hatch you can buy.”

The Swift Sport’s 1.6-litre engine has a maximum output of 136PS at 7,000rpm and is achieved through optimisation of the intake VVT (Variable Valve Timing) and increased valve lift.

The engine’s high output is combined with excellent fuel economy of 44.1mpg on the EC Combined Cycle; CO2 emissions are 147g/km and a bespoke exhaust system yields a sporty note. The Sport is fitted with a six speed manual transmission as standard.

The Sport is proving very popular with customers, achieving well over 110 per cent of sales target in 2013. To help widen the market as well as assist younger buyers aspiring to own one, Suzuki has included it in its latest PCP (Personal Contract Purchase) offers with a special low deposit of £2,313 required followed by 42 monthly payments of £219 and an optional final payment of £4,815 for the three door model.
